Eden Comes to The Claude Pepper Center

The Claude Pepper Center with support of the Claude Pepper Institute hosted a Certified Eden at Home training last week.  The three-day training was led by Mel Coppola, the only Certified Eden Alternative Educator in Florida.  Among attendees were a former Director of the Pepper Institute on Aging and Dean of the College of Social Sciences, a representative from the Northwest Florida Area Agency on Aging, an elder care community resident, a Certified Nursing Assistant, assisted living operators, and Claude Pepper research faculty.  While most of the attendees were from Florida, people traveled from as far as Kansas and Arizona. Participants learned how to apply the Eden Alternative Ten Principles across the continuum of care to create a meaningful life for elders and their care partners.  The training culminated in a certificate and most importantly, participants formed groups based on geographic location and created action plans to implement the Eden Alternative principles to their long-term care settings and communities.
