Clearing the Smoke on Misconceptions of Medical Marijuana: A focus on Older Adults

This issue brief attempts to clear up many of the misconceptions about medical marijuana, such as addiction and harmful side effects. Additionally, we discuss research findings that focus on chronic diseases most common among the 65 and older population, including: Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, arthritis, cancer, osteoporosis, glaucoma, and depression. We conclude with a discussion of the possible reasons behind the decision for the DEA to oppose the legalization of marijuana.
