FSU Claude Center Pepper director discusses the impact of volunteering in later life

Dr. Dawn Carr, Director of the FSU Claude Pepper Center, recently highlighted the impact of the “Grandpas United” initiative. This program provides older men with a sense of meaning, purpose, and community by addressing local needs.

Many older men might feel more comfortable staying at home and watching TV alone, which is a common activity among them. However, “Grandpas United” offers a fulfilling alternative through volunteering.

Dr. Carr commented that volunteering not only allows participants to contribute meaningfully but also connects them with others who share a similar purpose. Together, they create a supportive and engaged community.
